Self Service
The Science Library has self-service facilities for borrowing, renewing and returning our books. Please order your book via Explore and we will make it available for you on our hold shelf.
Borrowing, Renewing and More
A self-service machine for borrowing books is located on the ground floor. Just scan the barcode on the back of your Library card and enter your PIN number (set initially as 4 digits, DDMM of your birthday) to borrow and renew your books, to check reservations and view your Library account.
These facilities offer the ease and speed of multiple book issue.
Returning
We also have two machines for returning books (including books borrowed from Store). Unlike an ordinary book drop, the machines will clear the books from your Library account immediately. Just place a single book at a time into the machine. When you have returned all of your books, the machine will produce a receipt for your records.
Remember that you can return as many books as you want, but only one at a time.
Availability
Please consult the opening hours, above, for availability of the self service facilities.
AV Loan Collection and Return
Reserved items can be collected from and returned to the Help Point on the ground floor.
Photocopying
There are seven multi-functional devices in the library which offer copying, scanning to email and printing for UCL staff and students. All other visitors to the library can use the devices for copying. All copying is subject to copyright regulations.
Using the machines:
UCL staff and students need to present their UCL ID at the device to activate it. Credit can be added to your account using cash at the available kiosk.
All other visitors should obtain a log-in code and credit their account at the kiosk.
Staff and students should send printing to the printer named "print-ucl".
Cost of copying and printing:
For details, please visit the print@UCL web pages.
Laptop Loans
Need a computer? We have a laptop loans service in the Science Library. These are located on the ground floor. One bank of laptop loans is next to the stairs in the cluster area and one bank is near to the Help Point. There is also a smaller bank on the fourth floor in the Engineering study area.
Lockers
Lockers are available for UCL students.
Print journal loans
Print journals (periodicals) are not borrowable in the Science Library.
Stores journals may be borrowed by staff only for one week but are available for reference only by students.
