1B23: MODERN PHYSICS, ASTRONOMY AND COSMOLOGY
The past exam papers from 1998 onwards are available
in PDF format here,
along with other Physics exam papers.
The papers from 1994 (when the course started) are available
(in paper form only) from the college library or in the Physics and Astronomy
undergraduate library. There was a significant change in the "physics"
half of the course in 1998; the most important alteration was that special
relativity was removed from the syllabus. As a result, only the
following "physics" questions from before 1998 are now suitable for examination
practice:
- 1994: Section A Q8; Section B Q11 and Q13
- 1995: Section A Q1, Q2, Q4; Section B Q9, Q10
- 1996: Section A Q1, Q2, Q4; Section B Q9, Q11
- 1997: Section A Q1, Q2, Q4; Section B Q9, Q11
Most of the questions from 1998 onwards are suitable for
practice, but the following are not suitable because of minor syllabus
changes:
- 1998: Section A Q3; Section B Q9 first part
(the solution of the Schroedinger equation for a tunnelling particle is
now `non-examinable maths').
- 1999: Section A Q3.
Brief answers to the numerical parts (only!) of the questions
are available here for the physics questions on the recent papers:
Please note that it is Departmental policy not to make available the full examination model
answers.
