30 October 2017
We are delighted to share these photographs of our very own Professor Sir Alimuddin (Ali) Zumla at his knighthood investiture ceremony officiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace on October 17th, 2017.
Sir Ali received the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order (K.B.E) (the highest UK civilian honour) for 'Services to Public Health and Protection from Infectious Diseases'.
Sir Ali's knighthood is the latest accolade for his national and international research, training, capacity development, advocacy and charity work on tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and other killer infectious respiratory diseases with epidemic potential. In 2012 he had received The Grand Commander of the Order of Distinguished Services First Division, from the President of Zambia (his country of birth) for contributions to health services and medical education in sub-Saharan Africa.
His publications outputs have been of the highest quality and impact with over 500 publications on Pubmed (with 110 articles in the Lancet journals). He has published 20 medical textbooks including the global classic 'Manson's Tropical Diseases' and two large tomes on Tuberculosis involving over 130 global authors! For educational purposes he has led 29 journal theme series on TB and Respiratory Tract infections.
Sir Ali's work continues to proliferate and his latest research and training grants, as well as his advisory and advocacy activities with international bodies and funders will ensure that high quality health services are made available for disadvantaged peoples worldwide.
