I am currently working on the viability of using certain insecticides to combat malaria, but more generally my interests cover mechanosensation in insects, particularly with regards to the importance of chordotonal organs.
The picture on the left (taken by Dr. Joerg Albert) focuses on the proboscis of a female Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito, whilst the one on the right (taken by me) features a female resting after a blood meal. I am currently investigating the biting behaviour ofCulex mosquitoes and the possible effects of removing chordotonal organ function on this behaviour.
