Collingwood/Wright/1965, 264: `about a 1/2 mile east of Brougham on the north side of the road to Appleby, immediately opposite the Countess pillar'.
Brougham was the site of a Roman military fort called Brocavum in the Antonine Itinerary. A number of Roman-period inscriptions survive from this site, Collingwood/Wright/1965 nos. 772--788.
