Castlesteads is a fort 1/4 mile south-east of Mile-castle 57 on Hadrian's wall.
Castlesteads was one of the forts placed along the line of Hadrian's Wall. Thirty-five Roman inscriptions survive from this site, Collingwood and Wright/1965, nos. 1976-2009.
Dark/1992b, 111--120, argues that Castlesteads was part of a continued occupation and defence of Hadrian's Wall in the fifth and sixth century. His argument is, however, solely based on CASTL/1.
