At the centre there is a double circle incised, containing an equal-armed cross with X-shaped decoration on the arms, and a square at the centre. SOUTH SIDE. The shaft has rope-moulding forming a rectangular frame, within which there is further rope-moulding in the form of an X. The short, stubby arms have similar mouldings on the edges, which continue up into the head. The end of the arm has a square panel bearing a raised equal-armed cross, with incised cross within. Alternatively, the design can be seen as four raised L-shapes back to back. WEST FACE. The shaft of the west face has a rectangular panel bearing a knot of two-strand pointed interlace. The head bears a self-contained equal-armed cross in false relief with rope-moulding at the edges, an incised cross on each of the arms, and a flat cross-decorated boss surrounded by a circular rope-moulding in the centre. In the hollows of the arm-pits there is an incised pattern of T-shaped fretwork. ... NORTH SIDE. Similar to the south side. Top: Unusually, there is a panel of broad single-strand interlace on the flat top of the cross'. |
