1519-20: The first dollars in the world were minted at Jáchymov (in German Joachymsthal). These were the Joachymsthaler Gulden (Joachymsthal florins), the name of which became shortened to thaler, Czech tolar, then spread throughout the Habsburg lands in Central Europe, Spain and Spanish America.
