The Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands lie in the North Atlantic between Scotland and Iceland and consist of 18 small islands - 1,400 square kilometres in total. These islands have a total population of around 48,000 and are part of Denmark, although they do have home rule. The official language of the Faroe Islands is Danish, but the population speak and write Faroese, which is a language quite different from Danish.
