The Royal Town Planning Institute is an international professional body for town planners with over 27,000 members in 88 countries. They are responsible for maintaining professional standards and accrediting world-class planning courses in the UK and internationally.

The visit started with presentations from the BSP’s Innovation in Planning Education Research Cluster where BSP students presented work based on AI in planning education, decolonisation, widening participation and community engagement. This was followed by a roundtable discussion on the theme of future of planning education.

The presentations were followed by a Recovery Exhibition & Tour, showcasing BSP students’ work on the theme of recovery planning, and a Bartlett Urban Planning Society student-led tour of Bloomsbury, based on thematically aligned projects from the BSP Expo 2024.

Dr Lucy Natarajan said:

“We were delighted to welcome the RTPI to the school for the day. It was a valuable opportunity for staff and students to discuss with the President the challenges for future planners and the value of an inclusive education for built environment professionals.”
