The Welkin, meaning ‘the sky or heaven’. 

When Sally Poppy, a young girl, returns home to her husband covered in blood, she is convicted of the murder of a child and sentenced to hang. Admitting to the murder, she pleads the belly; claiming to be pregnant. A jury of twelve local women in rural England are taken from their housework to decide Sally Poppy's fate. Is she telling the truth or trying to escape the noose?

Played out in a single room, this tightly woven, tense, dark comedy leads to the women discussing justice, friendship, women's bodies, agency and experiences. A period drama with a modern story showing s**t hasn't changed.
