After studying psychology at The Queen’s University in Belfast Ben went on to complete the four year combined PGCE, teaching and MSc programme at Southampton, completing in 1999. In 2004 Ben began his Doctorate in Educational Psychology at UCL, completing in 2008. His doctoral research investigated how childrens’ reading self-concepts changed in response to different reading interventions.
He has worked in Kent since qualifying, working in a number of different roles as senior practitioner, supervisor and fieldwork consultant for trainees on the Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology and senior educational psychologist.
Ben has helped co-ordinate the crisis support service for schools in Kent since 2001. His work in this area includes papers exploring psychologists’ own needs when working in crisis situations as well as work supporting bereaved children.
Other current interests include Phoneme level literacy interventions, Video Interaction Guidance, Phoneme level literacy interventions and Trauma and critical incidents in schools.
