What to expect from studying at UCL East

Learn about what life will be like studying and living at the brand new UCL East campus.

The Global Business School for Health will be based at UCL’s brand new UCL East campus. This state-of-the-art campus offers a unique studying, living and working environment where interdisciplinary study and research can thrive. 

As this is a brand-new campus, we know that the new GBSH cohort may be curious as to what life at UCL East will be like. So, we have put together a list of what you can expect from studying and living in UCL East!

Modern and sustainable accommodation 

For those of you who will be looking for student accommodation near the UCL East campus, One Pool Street has you covered. One Pool Street includes self-catered accommodation for more than 500 postgraduate students, a student café, shop and a roof-top garden to relax in after a day of studying. One Pool Street offers you the unique chance to study and live in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, surrounded by incredible architecture, sports facilities and lush greenery.

Location, location, location 

UCL East is located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The nearest station (Stratford) is a short walk away and has some of the best transport links in London.

Stratford station is in Zone 2/3, and is served by National Rail services, the brand-new Elizabeth line, the London Overground, Jubilee Line and Central Line (London Underground lines) and the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). Therefore, getting into central London and the UCL Bloomsbury campus couldn’t be easier. Stratford is also served by a variety of bus routes and has a national coach station for travel around the UK. 

Furthermore, just around the corner from UCL East is Westfield Stratford City, the largest shopping centre in the UK. At Westfield, you can find 250 shops and over 70 restaurants and bars. 

If you’re not in the mood for shopping at the weekends, you have the whole of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to explore. At 560 acres, there’s always something new to explore. With cafes, events throughout the year and a network of canals, there’s something for everyone.

At UCL East you’re also not far from other iconic East London landmarks, such as Brick Lane. Brick Lane is full of vintage shops, buzzing brunch spots and amazing curry houses. You can also follow the canal path from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to Victoria Park which is a stunning green space to relax and picnic in. Festivals take place at Victoria Park each summer, including All Points East festival. You also won’t be far from other cool neighbourhoods including Hackney, Shoreditch and Liverpool Street, where you’ll find independent cafes, boutique shops and a great bar scene.

A buzzing student environment 

UCL East will be bringing together nine UCL faculties to deliver nearly 60 new postgraduate and undergraduate degree programmes. With innovation and collaboration at the core of the design of UCL East, students and staff can expect a fully cross-disciplinary and cooperative environment regardless of what their individual specialism may be. 

Furthering the core of innovation and collaboration, at UCL East all spaces and facilities are shared by faculties, providing a collaborative learning environment where different perspectives and ideas collide. This will create a unique learning environment where students can thrive in their programmes whilst developing a wider perspective through the cross-disciplinary nature of UCL East.

Community engagement opportunities

At UCL East, students will have countless opportunities to get involved with community engagement and philanthropic projects. You will have the option to join an existing project to volunteer your time and skills or to set up your own innovative project with funding and support from the UCL East team.

You will also be able to join one of the many volunteering projects run by students through the Students Union. From helping out in local schools, to raising awareness and funds, there’s a volunteer project for everyone.
