This group strives to create space for discussion, learning and in-depth reading of academic and non-academic materials dealing with gender and sexuality (broadly conceived) in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The reading group strives to celebrate work from a variety of countries and disciplines, share ideas and create a peer-support network for gender and sexuality researchers.

Each session consists of two parts. In the first 10-15 minutes, one person will have a chance to present and receive feedback on their work, ask a question that we will try to answer together, or use the allocated time in any other way they deem appropriate. In the remaining time, members will focus on a text which will jumpstart a discussion around a particular theoretical model or locality and facilitate an exchange of knowledge and ideas between the participants. The reading list is open to members’ suggestions. The reading group is run by SSEES PhD students (Olga Doletskaya and David Rypel) and welcomes all postgraduate students and early-stage researchers who situate their research in the region or are curious to learn more about it. No prior experience with theoretical literature on gender and sexuality is required.

We meet on the last Monday of the month from 17:00 to 18:00, starting on the 21st of February 2022. If our selected timeslot clashes with your schedule, but you are still interested in attending, please feel free to send an email to olga.doletskaya.21@ucl.ac.uk, and I will try to find a time that works for all of our members.

All welcome. This is a hybrid event. Please follow this FAQ link for more information. All our events are free but you can support the IAS here.
