IAS Book Launch: Inclusion, Diversity and Innovation in Translation Education

This book, which is part of the UCL Press Literature and Translation Series, merges the voices of a diverse group of scholars of various identities and backgrounds in order to expose readers to the latest developments in the fields of translation education and the learning and teaching of modern foreign languages. The contributors revisit how languages and translation are currently taught and explore the relevance of EDI values from an interdisciplinary perspective with a view to increasing a sense of belonging in university classrooms. This is a highly participative event in which the editors and respondents will discuss how the chapters present and engage with best teaching practices and teacher training guidance alongside examples of research-led teaching scenarios, allowing language and translation educators to implement new practices to capitalise on the far-reaching importance of EDI in higher education. Through conversation and by showcasing brief videos on the different chapters, the book launch invites attendees to learn more about pressing societal issues such as (media) accessibility, intersectionality, LGBTQI+ and race, among others, and to embed them in their language and translation teaching practices.

For this launch event, co-editors Alejandro Bolaños García-Escribano and Mazal Oaknín (UCL SELCS/CMII) will be joined by Kathryn Batchelor (UCL Centre for Translation Studies) and Marcella De Marco (London Metropolitan University). The event will be chaired by Olga Castro (University of Warwick/Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona) and will be followed by a wine reception.
