Supervision Skills for Leaders

This unique, practical course provides leaders including experienced SENCOs, inclusion managers and education consultants with the knowledge and skills to supervise colleagues within their setting, or across multiple sites, who support vulnerable pupils in a variety of roles, such as learning mentors, designated teachers, early career and assistant SENCOs.

Supervision is part of the ongoing support and development provided for professionals such as social workers, educational psychologists and speech and language therapists but not in
education.

This practical, evidence informed course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to deliver and embed supervision practice in your setting.

Course overview

  • Definitions, purpose and benefits of supervision, models of supervision
  • Practical elements of supervision, delivering supervision ethically and effectively, delivering individual and group supervision, evaluating supervision
  • Group and individual supervision for participants
  • Review of supervision delivered in settings by participants in their settings, whole school planning for supervision.

  • Leaders working in all phases from early years to further education and specialist settings

Course content, structure and dates

  • Session 1: 15 January 2024, 9.30am - 12.30pm
  • Session 2: 29 January 2024, 9.30am - 12.30pm
  • Session 3: 4 March 2024, 9.30am - 12.30pm
  • Session 4: 25 March 2024, 1.00pm - 2.00pm
  • Session 5: 29 May 2024, 1.00pm - 2.00pm
  • Session 6: 10 June 2024, 1.00pm - 2.00pm
  • Session 7: 8 July 2024, 09:30am - 12.30pm
  • 3x Individual Supervision Sessions to be arranged. 

Total study time: 20-22 hours.
