Material/Data Transfer Agreements

Material and Data transfer agreements are documents that describe and regulate the exchange of material or information with external parties (other academics, charities, companies, etc). The material exchanged can be from and to UCL, including human or animal samples, chemicals, data, etc.
It is important to notice that if the outgoing exchange of material is with an external for-profit company, this needs to be regulated even more carefully to make sure you are
       1) allowed to publish your results,
       2) owe what you produce and
       3) being rightfully compensated for your work.*
          * compensation is different if involving human samples or not. If not, seek UCLC advice, if human samples are exchanged (such as in biobanks), please contact the Business and Innovation Group at the TRO (Dr Nicolas Ridgway) or Dr Eleonora Lugara'. The best way to cost recover MTA regarding biobanks is by creating a small sponsored research agreement.

Exceptions are:

• For clinical trials/studies MTAs, please contact the Joint Research Office who are responsible for negotiating, approving and signing agreements relating to clinical trials/studies.
