20th Mar 1837 | 53 Enslaved | £640 8s 2d
Parliamentary Papers p. 322. T71/892: claim by McDuff Fyfe [of Portsoy in North Britain] owner-in-fee. Counterclaim by John Cropper as mortgagee, as judgement creditor of N.B. Cropper who is a mortgagee of the said enslaved persons. £712 16s 0d went to the colonial court from this claim.
T71/1610: memorial from McDuff Fyfe of Portsoy dated 03/08/1836 alludes also to claims from James Crosby etc, stating there is no contesting the validity of the mortgage but J. Crosby's counterclaim comes from the suit vs N.B. Cropper unconnected with your memorialist. J. Cropper ['hitherto your memorialists merchant in England'] and McDuff Fyfe were in negotiations 'for some time' together and with N.B. Cropper and with Patrick Cruickshank of London, West India merchants. J. Crosby's counterclaim was a mere personal claim.
T71/1593: letter to J. Crosbie, 17 Woburn Place, Russell Sq., forwarding replication and asking whether he wants to withdraw claim.
T71/500 p. 150: enslaved persons registered for McDuff Fyfe by N.B. Cropper in 1834.
