Kathleen Mary Butler, The Economics of Emancipation: Jamaica and Barbados 1823-1843 (Chapel Hill and London, University of North Carolina Press, 1995) p. 48: shows that Harbourne Gibbes Stragham [sic] bought Haynes Hall estate in 1832, paying £8571 down and securing the remaining £3428 with a judgement and mortgage.
