1803 [SY] - → Joint owner

Heir to father, John Wedderburn of Balindean's estate (including all lands in Jamaica) 1803. Blackheath jointly purchased by John Wedderburn of Balindean and his brother James Wedderburn Colvile c. 1802. Upon his death in 1808, James Wedderburn Colvile left his share to his eldest son, Andrew Colvile. Throughout the first decades of the C19th the property was managed by the firm of Wedderburn and Co. in which Andrew Covile and David Wedderburn were partners, along with their cousin John Wedderburn of Spring Garden.

1757 [EA] - 1760 [LA] → Previous owner
1770 [EA] - 1779 [LA] → Owner
1773 [EA] - 1773 [LA] → Trustee

William Gray was shown as 'late trustee' in 1773 but was separately shown as selling the estate, possibly as assignee or himself as a recent purchaser, in 1774. NB the association by LBS of William Gray of Richmond estate with the William Gray of Blackheath and The Rhine estates remains tentative but is supported by the presence of Jacob Israel Bernal in transactions on both sets of estates and by evidence of financiai distress and receivership across all three c. 1782.

1779 [EA] - 1780 [LA] → Other

David Kinlock filed Crop Accounts for Blackheath in 1780. One David Kinloch filed Crop Accounts for the estate in 1779, it is likely the same person.

1802 [EA] - 1803 [LA] → Joint owner

Joint purchase by John Wedderburn of Balindean and his brother James Wedderburn Colvile, mentioned in codicil to the latter's will dated 4/9/1802.

1808 [EA] - 1809 [LA] → Not known

In his will made in 1808 and proved in 1810. John Jackson of Fulham (d. 1809) expressed the expectation that a group of estates including Rhine and Blackheath (both earlier associated with William Gray) would be recovered by his estate.

Caribbeana Vol. III has parts of an indenture of 20/07/1774 between William Gray, Edward Woollery and Duncan Charles Macglashan whereby William Gray sold the estate to Macglashan for £46,647 currency of which he paid some £29,000 upfront. The estate was placed in trust until the balance was paid by a series of bonds. In the event, William Gray sought to accelerate his receipt of funds by borrowing from Jacob Israel Bernal and assigning as security both the bonds due from Duncan Charles Macglashan and William and Dorothy Gray's own The Rhine plantation. The entries in the Accounts Produce - which show Edward Woollery as owner and William Gray as late trustee - do not appear fully consistent with these transactions.
