Jane Gilchrist widow in 1794 left 'all slaves in trust' for her five daughters and £1000 secured on Sage Hill. Oliver identifies her as the mother of James and William Gilchrist. She was the widow of Dr John Gilchrist (d. 1782) and the daughter of William Salmond (q.v.), who had reportedly sold Sage Hill on reaching his majority.
