Awarded compensation for the enslaved people at Beverley in Jamaica, member of Jamaican slave-owning family who married as her second husband the London barrister Gilbert Neville Neyle (who died before the compensation process).
Protestant cemetery in Florence: Charlotte Parke Negle [sic] Jamaica, Neyle, Carlotta: dau.of Wm Parke of Jamaica and relict of Gilbert Neville Negle [sic] Esq. died at the Baths of Lucca 08/09/1839 aged 53. Will of Charlotte Neyle widow of No. 54 Welbeck Street Cavendish Square proved 15/11/1839.
Gilbert Neville Neyle had obtained a license for marriage with Charlotte Tucker 'late of the island of Jamaica but now of the said parish of St Clement Danes, a widow' on 10/07/1827.
Henry Brevoort's Letters to Washington Irving (New York, G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1918) p. 210 refers to Gilbert Neville Neyle as a lawyer with apartments at Lincoln's Inn 'He was formerly Chairman of the Stamp Office'. The will of Gilbert Neville Neyle Barrister of Law of Lincolns Inn was proved 17/02/1834.
In 1829 Gilbert N. Neyle (presumably with Charlotte Neyle) was shown at 7 Gloucester Place; by 1831 he was at 35 Upper Harley Street.
