Biography

London merchant, awarded part of the compensation for Herbert's estate in Antigua and for Cassada Garden, also in Antigua, as one of a group of mortgagees (John Henry Roper, James Trecothick the younger, Francis Thwaites, Wm Coles).

Probably the Wm Coles who was the original claimant under Dominica No. 146 and is shown as dying in February 1835.

  1. Coles v Trecothick 1803. Plaintiff was Thomas Coles. Defendants were James Trecothick, William Coles, Westgarth Snaith.

  2. Dissolution of partnership between William Coles, Charles Coles, George Coles of Scots Yard Bush Lane Cannon Street carried on under firm of Thomas Coles and Sons by mutual consent (signed by William Coles for himself and as executor to Thomas Coles deceased). Commission of Bankruptcy against William Coles of Mincing Lane broker, dealer and chapman 1810.

  3. Almost certainly the father of Rev. George Coles, father or uncle of William Coles the younger (q.v.) and brother of Thomas Coles (q.v.).
