1784 - 1852
Glasgow merchant, awarded part of the compensation for the Samuel Harman estate in Antigua with John McKie (q.v.) and W. Graham, the three men either former partners or executors of an as yet unknown deceased beneficiary, and also counterclaimed unsuccessfully as executor of Robt Gowan (q.v.) for the compensation for the Mount View estate.
Between 1816 and 1819, a series of partnerships between Wm Croil, Alexander Croil and Walter Macfarlane in Antigua, Guadeloupe, and Grenada were dissolved by mutual consent; on 31/12/1818, Walter Macfarlane ceased to be a partner in the concern in Glasgow which had carried on the businesses under the firm of William Croil and Co.
In 1851, William Croil West India merchant aged 66 born Perthshire was living at 163 Bath Street, Barony Lanarkshire with his wife Christean [sic] aged 57.
In 1841, William and Thomas Croil of Glasgow were shown as partners with Jesse Jones of Demerary in Jones, Croil & Co. The partnership appears to have been formed after Emancipation. In 1842 Jesse Jones married Christina, the daughter of William Croil.
