John Carrick Moore

Eminent geologist, awarded a share of the compensation for the Morant estate in St Thomas-in-the-East in Jamaica, probably as a trustee (again probably, of the marriage settlement of the physician Sir Alexander Crichton (q.v.) and Lady Crichton), and conceivably appointed to the trusteeship after the death of his father, the surgeon and advocate of vaccination James [Carrick] Moore in 1834.  

1. Son of James Moore (who adopted the name of Carrick on inheriting the Cors[e]wall estate in Wigtownshire), and nephew of Sir John Moore of Corunna. FRS and FGS:  Secretary of the Geological Society 1846-52.  Westminster School; at Glasgow University 1820-23; matriculated Queens Cambridge 1823, BA 1827: Inner Temple 1824, called to the Bar 1831. Married Caroline Bradley in 1835. Author of 'Recollections of an Octogenerian'. Died 12/02/1898 leaving £146,371 13s 4d.
