1783 - 1843
Very likely the John Simson identified by David Alston on the Slaves and Highlanders website. If so, the son of Colin Simson and Janet Fowler, of Ferintosh. "John Simson spent over 40 years in the West Indies and became collector of rum duties for Demerara and Essequibo. He died in Inverness in 1843, aged 51, having returned because of illness. On 15 April 1820 he married Jane Duff Grant, a grand-daughter of Alpin Grant."
