'Sir James [Wright] also acquired several adjacent estates [at Woodford], including Monkham house and farm. (fn. 147). In 1793 he started to build Ray Lodge, near Ray House, for his son George, employing as architect John (later John Buonarotti) Papworth, then aged only 18. (fn. 148). Sir James died in 1804 and was succeeded by his son, Sir George Wright, Bt., who in 1807 sold his Rayhouse estate to Benjamin Hanson Inglish.'
