Brighton (Sussex)
Townhouse in Brighton, reportedly built 1828-1830 but mentioned in The London Magazine in January 1826 when it referred to 'Mrs Coutts' arriving there in 1825. It was purchased in 1865 by the Brighton Union Club [Brecon Reporter and South Wales General Advertiser 20/05/1865], and later demolished. It was possibly built for the Byam family: Major General Edward Byam died there in 1864, but LBS has not verified that the family built it. It is described as 'Byham House' in the biography of Harriot Coutts by Charles E. Pearce (The Jolly Duchess: Harriot Melllon, afterwards Mrs Coutts and the Duchess of Albans, 1915).
