PAR/1/3 - Papers re sinking of SS St Kilda by Russian cruiser (1904-1909)

Contents: correspondence and documents re the sinking of SS St Kilda by a
Russian cruiser off Hong Kong in June 1905. This incident happened during
the Russo-Japanese war when the ship was wrongly accused of carrying
contraband. Pares became involved in helping the ship's owner to take
legal action against the Russian Government which was successful.

Contents: joint diary kept by Pares and his American friend Samuel
Northrup Harper, also a Russia specialist. Pares and Harper worked very
closely together particularly in the period 1906-1909, interviewing
Russian politicians and public figures and writing joint notes.

PAR/1/7 - Papers re proposed Anglo-Russian Exhibition (1908-1914)

Contents: correspondence and other papers including draft agreements and
plans of sites re proposed Anglo-Russian Exhibition to be held in White
City, London during 1915. Pares was a central figure in the negotiations
with Russian politicians over the exhibition which was never to take
place.
