Specific sub-cellular localisation of RNA has been established as essential for neuronal function and development, conferring an additional level of gene regulation and allowing precise spatio-temporal expression in response to stimuli. To identify RNA enriched in axons in response to NGF stimulation, we performed an RNAseq screen in Rat sympathetic neurons cultured in compartmentalized chambers. An interesting candidate has emerged from the screen, identified as both the most abundant RNA in axons and one of the most highly enriched and whose's expression has been shown to be spatially and temporally restricted to the developing nervous system. The aim of my PhD is to investigate the mechanisms behind this axonal localisation, and to understand the potential molecular function during neurodevelopment.
