The work of Henri Poincaré
Abstract:
Henri Poincaré is remembered for many things in mathematics and theoretical physics, among them automorphic functions and non-Euclidean geometry; the discovery of chaotic motions in celestial mechanics; the Lorentz group; algebraic topology and the Poincaré conjecture.
In this talk I shall invite you to choose a slice through his work which I shall use as a springboard to discuss his work in mathematics, physics, and philosophy.
