MechEng Culture Charter

We are excited to introduce our Culture Charter, which outlines our commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and supportive environment.

The Mechanical Engineering department is committed to fostering a welcoming, supportive and nurturing environment, where students and staff commit to their core duties. We aim to create a culture defined by respect and collaboration, ensuring that everyone can thrive and contribute effectively. We work together towards achieving our personal and departmental goals.

In accordance with our culture charter, I commit to:

  1. Actively promote diversity and inclusion by ensuring all voices are heard and valued.
  2. Hold ourselves and others accountable for maintaining a respectful and professional environment and act against bullying and harassment.
  3. Listen deeply, communicate openly and make decisions transparently.
  4. “Best practice” is challenging “best practice”: embrace change and strive for continuous improvement by questioning and refining existing practices.
  5. Foster respectful disagreement, take responsibility for mistakes and sincerely apologise when necessary.
  6. Be curious and aware of others' commitments and workloads; recognise and reward excellence in various forms.
  7. Support the well-being of every individual and be helpful and kind in dealing with others.

The Mechanical Engineering department is dedicated to cultivating a respectful and inclusive culture that empowers all members to thrive. By committing to accountability, open communication, and continuous improvement, we strive to create an environment where everyone can contribute effectively and support one another's well-being.
