Harageh (Haraga)
(29°13' N 31°02'E)
By Harageh, Egyptologists refer to a series of cemeteries around the edge of a sand "island" in the middle of the fields between the Nile and the Fayum (see map). Reginald Engelbach and Battiscombe Gunn excavated this site in one season of work, winter 1913-1914, funded by the British School of Archaeology in Egypt. They published their main finds in the volume "Harageh" (London 1923) which is of a very high standard for its time, but incomplete by the modern standards. |
Date of the cemeteries:
Predynastic
late Old Kingdom (about 2686-2181 BC)
- First Intermediate Period
late Middle Kingdom
New Kingdom (about 1550-1069 BC)
