Islamic Period Pottery
Heavy pear-shaped bottle found in many parts of the Near East. The bottles have a small mouth through which the liquid can be dispensed drop by drop. The bottles are often elaborately decorated with relief and they are sometimes glazed. The function is not certain; on written evidence it has been suggested variously that they were made as military projectiles, or for containing vintage wine.
