Andesite Porphyry
It is a volcanic rock, similar to diorite but fine-grained. In the Roman Period it was quarried at Gebel Esh, Gebel el-Urf and Gebel Dukhan. The material was sometime used for vessels (predynastic), but was especially popular in the Roman Period.
