Calls for changes in UK flour to prevent birth defects

Professor Sir Nicholas Wald (UCL Institute of Health Informatics) argued advising women to take folic acid supplements before pregnancy “does not work” as few people follow this advice, and added that this would not be needed with “fully effective fortification” of food.
