UCL's Widening Participation Unit has published an annual report detailing its activities undertaken throughout 2005-2006.
The unit seeks to:
- broaden awareness of higher education among students from under-represented groups
- raise the aspirations of the brightest of these students to seek the best education that is right for them
- increase the numbers of students from non-traditional backgrounds admitted to UCL
- maintain and, if possible, increase the excellent progression and retention rates of all students once they have embarked upon their undergraduate degree programmes at UCL.
Over 2005-2006 activities included school and college visits, student tutoring and mentoring, summer schools, admission interview guidance, taster courses and a number of departmental initiatives.
