UCL lecturer shortlisted for Law Teacher of the Year Award

The six shortlisted candidates, involved in higher legal education, were chosen by the panel of judges, and it was only after the list had been finalised that the identities of the teachers were revealed to the judges. Dr Guilfoyle has been shortlisted after meeting the following criteria:

• Displays an active interest in and development of approaches to teaching that influence, motivate and inspire students to learn

• Demonstrates commitment to and support for the development of students as individuals

• Uses effective communication skills that engage students in the learning experience

• Involvement in scholarly activities that have influenced and enhanced learning both of students and colleagues

Talking about his nomination, Dr Guilfoyle explained: "I am genuinely delighted to have been both nominated and short-listed. I'm looking forward to the judges' visit to UCL, and the opportunity to showcase teaching at Laws."

The Award, sponsored by Oxford University Press, is the only one of its kind in the UK set up specifically to reward great law teaching. The overall winner of Law Teacher of the Year 2012 was Karen Devine, University of Kent.  The winner was announced at the 2012 LILAC event, held at the University of Warwick in February.
