14 student services you should know about: support when you need it most

UCL is here to support you throughout your studies and to provide assistance where possible to ensure your university experience is safe, enjoyable and rewarding.

Gower Place Practice

 

UCL has a range of support services available to students, both centrally and within your department. Below you will find a list of some the services you may find useful. For further information on the below services, including contact details, please click on the links provided.

1. Gower Place Practice

It is essential to register with a local doctor while you are in London. Gower Place Practice is an NHS general practice located on the UCL campus which provides general health care, a contraceptive service and a full nursing service. You can register with them if you live in one of the local postcodes which they cover, and are registered to a course that lasts longer than 6 months.

2. Student Centre

The UCL Student Centre is based in the Chadwick Building and is the main face-to-face point of contact for student enquiries. The Student Centre is open Monday - Friday from 10:00-16:00.

3. Student Psychological Services

UCL Student Psychological Services is an accessible and effective professional resource for students who are facing emotional and psychological problems. The team is made up of qualified and experienced psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists and cognitive behavioural therapists.

4. Student Funding team

The Student Welfare Funding Adviser offers advice on a range of issues including budgeting your money, bank accounts, financial assistance fund, student loan company funding, loans, bursaries and more. The Student Funding Team offers a drop-in counter service which operates from Student Centre 2 in the Chadwick Building, Monday - Friday from 10:00-16:00

5. Student Disability Services

UCL is committed to supporting disabled students to achieve their academic potential. The aim of Student Disability Services is to enable you to study as independently as possible during your time at UCL by ensuring that your physical, mental and other learning needs are met.

6. International Student Support

The International Student Support Team provides support to all non-UK students at UCL. Areas of support include; the International Student Orientation Programme (ISOP), opening bank accounts in the UK, healthcare, travel in London, immigration information, police registration and assistance with all welfare-related topics.

7. Transition Mentor Programme

Every first year undergraduate student is assigned a Transition Mentor for their first term at UCL. Transition mentors are later-year students from within your department and will help you settle into life at UCL.

8. Chaplain and Interfaith Advisor

The UCL Chaplain is here to provide pastoral care and support for all members of college, staff and students alike; to provide support to faith groups, and to enable UCL to be a place where differing religious views can be discussed with respect.

9. Personal Tutor

Every student at UCL has their own Personal Tutor, who will normally be a member of teaching staff. Your Personal Tutor is there to support your learning and development at UCL, as well as provide personal welfare support where needed

10. UCL's 24/7 Student Support Line 

UCL  students can access confidential emotional support, advice, and information through UCL's 24/7 Student Support Line. It's a free, confidential wellbeing support service available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 

11. Students Transitioning Gender

UCL is committed to providing support and understanding to students who wish to take, or have taken, steps to present themselves in a gender different to their birth gender. UCL recognises that this can be a complex time for an individual and would wish to act in a sensitive and supportive way by having helpful policies and practices in place to ease any transitional period.

12. Student Mediator

The UCL Student Mediator is responsible for advising and assisting UCL students with the resolution of complaints, involving staff or other students or services of UCL which the student has been unable to resolve through informal means.

13. Students who are Pregnant, Adopting or are Parents

UCL is committed to supporting students who are parents, carers, adopting or fall pregnant, throughout the course of their studies. We encourage you inform your Personal Tutor, Departmental Tutor, Programme Tutor or Principal Supervisor (Research degrees students) as early as possible to allow us to support you in the best possible way.

14. Student of Concern

If you are concerned about the wellbeing and/or safety of a fellow student, you can complete a Student Cause for Concern Form. Within 24 hours of receiving the form, UCL Student and Registry Services will send a request for a meeting with the student.
