Originally trained as a professional actor and musician, I graduated with distinction from UCL’s MSc SLS programme in 2009 and am now Consultant Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at the London Gender Identity Clinic. I specialise in clinical voice, trans and gender-diverse voice and communication, and stammering. I began as a NQT in Annie Elias’ team in Kent Community Health, and progressed to being a voice and dysfluency specialist. On graduation, I was also appointed part-time tutor at City Lit working with Jan Logan, Rachel Everard and Carolyn Cheasman, delivering group therapy to adults who stammer, and as a developing specialist at the Gender Identity Clinic. In 2012, I became lead for voice in Bexley within Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, working with Sara Harris and Rehab Awad in the Lewisham Voice Clinic. I have delivered papers on paradoxical vocal fold dysfunction with Lesley Cavalli at GOSH, and for the London Voice CEN; in Narrative Therapy approaches with adults who stammer with Jan Logan at the 9th Oxford Dysfluency Conference in 2011, and several papers on voice and communication therapy interventions and outcomes for European Professional Association for Transgender Health (EPATH), World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (BAGIS). I am now Head of Speech and Language Therapy Service at the London Gender Identity Clinic, an RCSLT Adviser in trans and gender diverse voice, and London Region member of NHS England’s Clinical Reference Group for Gender Identity Services. I am a visiting lecturer at Greenwich University and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, teaching SLT students and voice practitioners, respectively. I am co-author with Gillie Stoneham of The Voice Book for Trans and Non-Binary People. I feel enormously privileged to have been guided by a number of gifted and generous SLTs that have enabled me to specialise in voice and stammering.
