Research FundGuidelines
Grants from this fund are to assist research into prehistory in any part of the world. In conjunction with the general fund, the Prehistoric Society administers the Bob Smith Fund (established by Dr. G Wainwright to commemorate the late Dr. R W Smith) and the Leslie Grinsell Award. Both the above named awards are selected from applications to the general fund and are offered to projects closest to the research interests of Bob Smith and Leslie Grinsell. Separate applications are not necessary. The Research Grant aims to offer small ‘pump-primer’ grants to projects in their early stages. A further aim is to give preference to projects showing innovation in the field of prehistory research and to those scholars in the earliest stages of their research careers. However, although the above guidelines apply, all applications will be judged primarily on their academic quality. The Society usually makes several awards from this fund within the range of £100-1000 per award. Preference is likely to be given to small-scale projects less likely to attract significant funding from other major sources. Grants will not usually be given for work directly related to a higher degree or to students in receipt of Research Studentships (student travel grants are offered from the John and Bryony Coles award [LINK]). The Prehistoric Society cannot accept applications for salaries, post-excavation work or student funding. All applications and references must be received by 31st January. APPLICATIONS WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED FROM MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY.
