Imran Suleiman

Meet Imran Suleiman. Imran is from the UK and he studied Further Education PGCE at the IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society, which provided him with opportunities to build connections, and develop both personally and professionally.

The universe gifted me a second chance with my postgraduate degree to socialise and build connections at UCL, and I am very glad for it.

Further Education PGCE

Soaking in knowledge and experience

I studied a PGCE in Further Education ESOL/Literacy at UCL.

What attracted me most to UCL is its reputation, then once I began my studies, it reinforced just how much I love education.

I love the feeling of a group of people working towards the same goal, and I enjoy soaking in the knowledge and experience of lecturers and industry professionals. My time at UCL helped me solidify my core values and principles, such as professionalism, authenticity, discipline, and curiosity.

Throwing yourself into uni life

My undergraduate degree consisted of me going to my lectures and going home. I didn’t socialise much.

The universe gifted me a second chance with my postgraduate degree to socialise and build connections at UCL, and I am very glad for it. I threw myself into life there.

I tried vinyasa flow yoga at UCL East Marshgate, and I took part in a 10k UCL campus run at the Olympic Park in Stratford.

In fact, I am running my first full-marathon in two days thanks to UCL introducing me to running! I was a student ambassador at UCL Open Days, helping potential students navigate their way around the campus, which was great fun.

So much so, that to this day I help lead social and cultural activities as a Welcome Helper at the Institute of Education.

Advice to future students

My advice to future students would be to try everything.

Don't worry too much about having things figured out, just take every opportunity that comes your way and make the most of the connections you build.

Gain knowledge. Gain advantage. Make your Master’s matter.
