Why study Architecture at UCL?

Architecture was first taught at UCL in 1841 and since then The Bartlett School of Architecture has been at the forefront of international architectural practice and debate. With two London sites – 22 Gordon Street in Bloomsbury and Here East at Queen Elizabeth Park – we work with students in environments that encourage and facilitate innovation. Affiliate students join the school’s Architectural and Interdisciplinary Studies BSc programme, taking modules from architecture, planning and project and construction management, alongside modules from across UCL. The programme offers students the opportunity to approach architecture and the built environment in a truly interdisciplinary way, developing their own bespoke knowledge set.

What you will gain from study at UCL

Affiliate students will learn about key architectural ideas and spatial strategies at a top-ranked architecture school. They have the opportunity to participate in the creative life and leading debates of The Bartlett, through participating in discussions and lectures, or by attending the school’s exhibitions. Students are taught by leading practitioners and academics from a range of creative disciplines, challenging and extending how they define, understand and use architecture.

Teaching and assessment

Teaching at The Bartlett School of Architecture is delivered through group tutorials, workshops and seminars, with frequent review sessions and assessed through the submission of portfolio work (written and design-based). Across UCL, modules are assessed through a combination of coursework, essays and examinations and taught through workshops, lectures and tutorials.

Additional costs

The average cost for materials and study-related-items for the design modules within this programme, including end of year portfolios, is £500 per year. For these design modules students work differently, so costs incurred depend on the approach they take to the brief given

The school encourages students to use recycled materials in their modules and presentations - not only is it sustainable, but also cost effective and potentially innovative.
