HomeThe Faculty of Laws is a vibrant and cosmopolitan community, providing a wealth of opportunities for students to develop their interests and talents. Our London base contributes positively to a rich student experience and complements the significant international elements in all our programmes.
UCL Laws is one of the world’s leading law departments and top in London (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021). Our students are taught by distinguished academics; cutting-edge researchers in their diverse fields. There are frequent visits from leading judges and lawyers, as well as easy access to the Supreme Court, Old Bailey and London’s wide variety of academic resources. Please note that all of our affiliate places are taken by students selected by our partner institutions under a reciprocal exchange or Erasmus agreement. We are unable to accept applications outside of these arrangements.
You will be encouraged to develop a critical awareness of how the law works and how it may be changed, to sharpen your powers of reasoning and develop a technical expertise. Emphasis is placed on small-group teaching, where you will benefit from individual attention and advice.
You will be taught through a combination of lectures and/or seminars and/or tutorials. Most modules are assessed by either unseen examination or assessed essays, or a combination of both.
Please note that this guide lists a range of popular modules offered as a representative sample. It is not exhaustive and, since the guide is published ahead of time, module options may have changed, been deleted or replaced. If you have very specific study needs or require confirmation of module availability for 2024/25, you are strongly advised to get in touch with the relevant Affiliate contact, listed on this subject page, before making an application.
All modules run over a whole year. We do not admit Affiliate students for single terms. Please contact the Faculty of Laws to check availability of modules in 2022/23, or if there is a particular area of study that interests you which is not listed here.
