The three Fs and breathlessness: Functional MRI, Feasibility and Findings
Andrew Wilcock, Clinical Reader in Palliative Medicine and Medical Oncology at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
Breathlessness debilitates millions of people with advanced diseases, including cancer and cardiorespiratory diseases. Over the last two decades, functional magnet resonance imaging(fMRI) has transformed our understanding of the human brain. This understanding can help in the development of new treatments. In Andrew's seminar, he will provide an overview of the recent application of fMRI to understand breathlessness. He will then detail description of a local feasibility study he undertook with colleagues in fMRI in breathlessness, its preliminary findings, and next steps.
