I lived everywhere and fit in absolutely nowhere. I think sometimes that I'm really just a wallflower. People sometimes comment that my work is either too pretty or too offensive I just wish sometimes that I could just disappear and fade into the background like floating images that disappear if you get too close. Sierra Choi It is utterly useless to talk about one's own work anymore. Sierra Choi The films and video installations of Sierra Choi often explore the relationship
between text, image and sound but more frequently exploit the politics
of gender, race and cultural identity. She has made over twenty short
videos in the past two years that dissect the causal relationships between
that of the viewer with the work whilst integrating the traditions of
cinema and painting with that of the video installation. Her work aims
to pose the question of the medium and at times, seems to methodically
vacillate between print and the moving image, between photography and
painting, between the past and present, between catharsis and melodrama,
between sound and noise; and between the digital and analogue methods
of production. Her work has been exhibited and screened in Paris, Berlin, Dublin, San Francisco and London. |
