María Cepeda – MA/MFA
I am a Colombian artist based in the UK working across different media, with a most recent focus on ceramics, digital animations, and painting. The works that I am presenting are the visual expression of a fictional world which I’ve created as an allegory to my country and its people, who I consider to have a hybrid identity, as a result of its post-colonial history.
The creatures in many of my works echo this hybridity, which I believe is key to defining ourselves through the positive affirmation of the hybrid, as opposed to through a joint configuration of negative affirmations (explaining what we are not, rather than what we are). Through my work I hope to bring forth the rich multi-layered identity, and plurality of Latin-America as I see it with my eyes.
