Ruoyu Jiang – MA/MFA
I am a mixed media artist based in Kunming, China. The main form of my work is multi-media installation. My practice involves the moving image, photography, found object and sculpture, in which I study themes such as shifting spaces between rural and urban landscapes and notions of place, which I have recently found most intriguing. My practice is usually based on open fieldwork. I see remaking and installing the materials from the fieldwork as a crucial working method. Architectural elements and display methods have always been part of my practice. I find stimulus in the recent past, part of my practice attempts to extract things out of the past and bring them into the present in a very evocative way, thus to reveal the past that we are not fully aware of, and to promote the understanding and reflection on the current reality.
