This is a picture of an amusement park in the background, with the fireworks and smoke in front of it so that only part of the structure of the amusement park can be recognised. The overall colour palette is red and the smoke and fireworks are yellow. There is a lot of sparkle in the image, as if it were the afterglow of a setting sun. In this work, the viewer can feel the silence that remains after the hustle and bustle, the grey flying away, and everything seems to have never existed.

This piece depicts a number of firework tubes staggered on the ground, intermittently shooting out dazzling fireworks. The overall colour palette is purple, with some yellow firework clusters and falling fireworks forming some yellow lines. In this work, the viewer can feel the noise and tranquility, happiness and sadness. I hope that through this work, the viewer can experience the group relationship.

This piece depicts fireworks as they are heard, bursting from ear level and landing on a mountain cape. The overall tone of this painting is a dark red with some bright white clusters of fireworks flying through the image. In this image I wanted to emphasise the feeling of being confined. That is why you can see if anything the edge lines, pillars, etc. in the picture.

In this piece I depicted the moment when two fireworks burst together. The overall colour is beige and I have focused on the crushing and collision of the fireworks at the moment of eruption. These fireworks are so colourful that they seem to be dancing in the sky.

For this piece I focused on depicting some of the smoke from the fireworks as they erupted. The overall colour of this piece is a blue-green with transparent smoke. The smoke moves slowly, bumping, squeezing, and caressing each other, as if they were people in a group.

Xi Liu – MA/MFA

I often display certain dualities in my works, including individual and group, connection and disconnection, cohesion and dispersion, micro and macro, same and different, familiar and unknown, stillness and movement, presence and absence. The subjects I paint are closely intertwined with themes of family, group, and intimate relationships. They are impacted by sudden changes as they move through time, and the states are deeply tied to sensory memories and experiences of the objects.
