The central theme of the work is the idea of suffering as a public spectacle. Using my past experience in the sex work industry as an emotive basis, the work attempts to interrogate acts self-depreciation and similar destructive behaviours exhibited by the socially disadvantaged, which are then used to entertain the privileged classes. The creation of a theatrical stage where the destruction of the self takes place through performance and punishment.

Di Jacques-Kershaw – BA/BFA

I am based in North London and my work is primarily concerned with the behaviours that exist between the divided social classes, both in reality and in media portrayal. I use the absurd to satirise social standards that isolate the divergent and the macabre to figuratively depict instances of chaos that arise from paternalistic relationships. My work is mixed media, sculpture, and film.
